3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
On Wednesday October 23, 2013 we had a 3 on 3 basketball tournament during lunch. This tournament was a part of the Christmas in October. There were many different teams who competed. My team consisted of Patrick, Howie, and I. Our team name was Tatlong Pogis. Our team was too shifty and we shifted our way to the finals. The first team was JVD or something like that. It was an all-girl. We won easily 7-2. Howie had a block party in the beginning. #BowDown. Meanwhile Patrick was just shifting them all day erry day. #ShiftTeam. I was just getting them dimes you know.

Our next game was against Jaira’s team. We won 5-2. The highlight of that game was when I did a pump fake and Jaira jumped stepped on my shoes and broke her ankles. #Shifted. Then our next game was the semi-finals against Lado’s team. That was our closest game all tournament. We were tied after time was finished. So we had to do a tiebreaker and we shot free throws. Patrick and Lado missed their first two shots. So then I decided to take one shot where I airballed #BrickSquad. We ended up winning the tiebreaker. We also ended up beating Mark’s team in the finals. WOOOOO CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!

We Scare Hunger

We Scare Hunger is a project where kids all around Canada and the UK help out on Halloween by trick-or-treating and also collecting cans of non-perishable food for the less fortunate.  During March of 2012, 822 188 Canadians recieved help from a food bank. 1 in 5 parents said that they've skipped meals to provide extra food for their children and from 2008 to 2012, there was a 31% increase in use of food banks.

We Scare Hunger is one of the things that the organization of "Free the Children" have held. Free the Children is an international charity that was founded by Marc and Craig Kielburger.

Math
In math we just finished our unit on adding, multiplying, dividing, subtracting and order of operations with fractions. We also just got our tests back and the class average was 65 percent. Now in math we are learning about factors which are numbers that when multiplied together produce a given product. We are also learning about prime factors, which are numbers which can only be divided by one and itself like 2, 3, or 5. So far it is kind of boring.

We are learning about perfect squares in math. Perfect square is an element of algebraic structure which is equal to the square of another element (from the dictionary). We are also learning about square roots, which are a number whose square is a result of multiplying the number by itself. This unit so far is pretty easy.

Science
In science we are going to soon start working with our partner to make a boat. This boat will be our first science project this year I hope to do well. We are also going to have to make a titanic newspaper or a work with a partner to make a newscast which is due on Monday. We have just recently finished watching a titanic video that was about a group of people who wanted to discover the secrets of the titanic and by the end they did.
We are also going to be having a science test next week on Halloween October 31st.  It about all the things we have been working on since September which is fluids, density, volume, mass etc. This might be a long test because of how much we have been working on there will be lots on the test.

Spirit Week
This week is spirit week, the days are red and green day, Christmas character day, stripes day, and crazy hat and tie day. The events are tug of war( 8B CHAMPIONS UNDEFEATED!!!!!), Christmas karaoke(didn’t do), basketball 3v3, and jello eating contest. We are in the lead so far and we have donated lots of cash.

We are hoping to win the pizza party and skip 2 classes and watch movies by winning the spirit week. We are also hoping to dethrone Miss. Andrew, who has won spirit week 13 years in a row. We have more points then any other class in grade 7 and 8, it will come down to the most donations.

Gym

In Gym we have finished our football unit a long time ago. We learned how to throw, punt, catch, snap and run with the football. We also did our football test… it was very easy, well for me it was. We also finished our fitness testing.  We had to do pushups, sit-ups, agility jump, vertical jump, flexibility, pull ups, 1500 meter run, and the beep test.  I think I did very well.

We are starting our volleyball unit. Last class we did bumping.  Everybody was on task… except for some people… *COUGH* *COUGH* we are going to learn how to bump, set, spike, and serve.  I hope this volleyball unit can go really fast, because I want basketball to start.

Today I’m going to talk about science. Our teacher is Mr. Rautert. In science we are learning about density calculations and fluids. For science we are doing a project on building a boat. We are allowed to pick partners and my partner is Navroop.

My next subject I am going to talk about is Social Studies. Our teacher is Miss. Costanzo. In Social Studies we are learning about the Cro- Magnons, the Early Years, the three stages of people, the first tools and materials. We had a culture assignment due a while ago. It was based on our culture and why we got our name and if It had a special meaning,

Our volleyball team consists of Shane, Partiq, Vince, Aayush, lado, Yafet, Kavisha, Simon, Dereck, And I. So far we are dominating other teams we are 2 and 0 and soon to be 3 and 0. The best player is Shane. He is the best because he can serve, bump set and smash really well and hard. Partiq is second best because he can bump and set it to Shane with very good accuracy. Vince is third best because he has a strong arm to smash the ball over the net. Vince can also set and bump.

Volleyball

Our last volleyball game was a home game on Oct. 1st. We played against St Gerard. That was our first volleyball game.  The game started at 4:00 and ended at about 5:00. We lost the first two sets in the game but won the last set, 15-25. Even though we didn’t win the game we were happy that we won the last set. I think this year we will have a good season in volleyball.

For our warm-ups on game day we do half laps on our side of the gym, and then we stretch so we don’t pull any muscles or get hurt during the game. We practice serving a lot so we always get them over when it’s our turn to serve. When we don’t have anything to do we practice volleying, bumping, and diving. What we have to work on more is moving on the court and calling out who's it is.
