Competitive basketball

COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL

I decided to write about the competitive basketball team. We have 12 players and they are: Vince, Patrick, Howie, Mark, Shane, Surafel, Carter, Daniel, Lado, Savith, Noah M, and Derek. Our coaches are Patrick and Howie’s dad. We’ve had about 4 practices now. Last year our competitive team got Finalists and this year we are looking to win the Champions banner. We have 4 returning players from last year, and they are: Vince, Patrick, Howie, and Mark. We are also looking forward to win the St. Paul’s tournament. Our first game is against St. Emile at their school on February 3. But our first home game is on February 5 against our rivals Linden Christian whom we beat in the semi-finals last year. So everybody should come and watch. Also support the #2B2T journey.
Some of us have our own basketball nickames. Mine is ShiftyVincey, Patrick is Patick Swog, Howie is #Float Team General, and Mark is Sniper.

Art class

Art
In art class we have a couple of assignments that are going to be due very soon.  We have to finish our quotes up to January, Canada Day poster, Comic book/strip, calligraphy poster, and if you have not yet finished the shaded drawings.  Every month we have to write 10 quotes, by now we should have 50 quotes.  For the comic strip we have to take a story for example The Three Little pigs and make it like a comic book. The calligraphy poster is where we take a song or poem and write the words on the paper and just decorate it however we want. I think the Canada Day Poster is the most exciting because first of all we can enter the Canada Day Poster challenge contest and win great prizes. Second of all we get to see all of the things that are great about Canada.
For the Canada Day poster we have to draw things that represent Canada. The theme is the same as last year, Canada strong and free. We will be judged on our drawings, colouring, and how you placed all your pictures. Some things that people usually put on their poster is an inukshuk, Canadian flag, CN tower, moose, etc. if you choose to enter in the contest and you win you could get one of the prizes which is an ipad mini.

Mesopotamia 8B Navroop

In Social Studies class, we are learning about the Sumerians in Mesopotamia. Sumerians lived in the valley between the Tigris and Euphrates river. There are a lot of different things that we've learned about Sumerians. We learned about how a lot of things that we use today have started from there. Even some of the first civillization's evidence was found there, as well as the plow, instruments, and different methods for farming and cooking. We had a test and an exam coming up including Mesopotamia.

A popular Mesopotamian ruler was Gilgamesh of Ur, who believed that he was two thirds God, and one third human. He had built magnificent ziggurats and temples and was known as physically, beautifully, and immensly strong. It's also said that Gilgamesh had a story similiar to Noah from the Bible.

ELA (Delaney)

In ELA we are getting ready for exams by talking about what will be put on the exam. We will probably have to write a poem on the exam. We need to know all of the vocab words from this year so far. We also need to know all of the types of poems that we have covered so far. We will need to know about A Christmas Carol and who wrote it too!

We are also doing an essay on A Christmas Carol for the provincial assessment. We read the story before the Christmas break. Also before the Christmas break we watched Mickey Mouse version of A Christmas Carol. Most of us have already finished the rough draft and are on to the next stage of conferencing. After conferencing we will need to make revisions and then ask other people to make the final edit. When we are done it will be around exam time but there is no set date for it being due.

Christmas Charity (Tygerrr)

Christmas Charity (Tyger)

Hi. For a Christmas charity, many classes in our school made food hampers for families who can't afford it in the area. Each student brought a specific item like cookies, eggs, milk, cheese whiz, bread, pancake mix, etc. I had to bring in a box of cookies for the hamper any time before the 20th, while anyone who had items that needed to be refrigerated brought theirs in the day of. Each class provided for one family.

For Christmas charity, some people also brought in mitts, hats, scarves, toothpaste, soap, and all that. They were given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which were then given to people who needed it because it's really cold outside and they could be really cold on Christmas. All of the classes worked together combined to help families in need so they have a good Christmas.

Kaleab 8B
 Blog ELA
In ELA we are now starting a character sketch. At first, the character sketch seemed just as if it was a description of a character, but it turned out to be something like an essay. The character we have to do the sketch on is Scrooge from the story a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We are also organizing our binders for exams. We finished Treasure Island before our break and we did a test which we should be getting back soon.

We have to make sure that our sketch is well written and because of that we must make a rough copy so we can do better the next time. After our character sketch we will be reading the Hobbit. We also got a chance to go to the library and start working on our essay, we were able to make a thesis statement, and a hook, and a topic sentence, after that we start doing a rough draft which should be edited. The sketch will be tough to do so we have to work hard on it.
