Right now in science we are studying optics. We have learned
about how light reflect off objects and some colours are absorbed and some aren’t.
We have looked at the electromagnetic spectrum and the different levels
of radiation, with radio waves being on the far left of the spectrum (lowest
level) and gamma rays being at the far right of the spectrum (highest level).
The levels of the light waves are measured in two ways. The wave length which
is the distance between two crests, and the frequency which is how many waves
pass a given point in a certain amount of time.
We have also looked at different sources of light. For
example, bioluminescence. This is where living creatures naturally contain a
source of light, somewhere on or in their body. We have also checked out
different types of light bulbs, how they work and the pros and cons of them.
Later in the unit we will learn about eyes and how they work.
